Hello my friends! The good news is that I finally finished that huge, stressful work project that has consumed my every waking hour for months now. Whew, what a relief! The bad and good other news is that I’m going back for another eye surgery tomorrow morning. Good because it means I’ll be one step closer to having clear vision again. Bad because I will have about 2-3 weeks of not being able to see well enough to use the computer. So I’ll be offline for a while. On the one hand, I really need the break to relax and unwind after this super-hard first half of the year. On the other hand, it’s rough that my “health vacation” is such that I can’t actually do most of the things I like to do for fun. No writing or blogging or emailing, no reading books, no watching TV or movies, not even any cooking. And forget getting any projects done around the apartment: I won’t be able to see well enough even to do basic cleaning. So basically, it’s phone calls, audiobooks, podcasts, and lots of naps and cuddling with my cat. I’m also hoping to tune my guitar and maybe get back to playing.
I’ve pretty much caught up on my two favorite reading/writing podcasts: Mythcreants and Writing Excuses. (At least, all the episodes that are available on Google podcasts.) Do you have any reading or writing podcasts you’d recommend? I’m especially interested in sci-fi/fantasy/speculative, but fine with branching out, too.
I hope to be back to writing and posting by the end of August. In the meantime, take care, stay healthy, and happy writing!
Hope the surgery goes well. Take care!

Joy, glad your work project is completed so that you can now focus (no pun intended) on this next surgery. That’s of course is so much more important. I hope you’ll be back to clear vision by the time the pandemic is over so you with everyone else can step out and enjoy the world again. Goodness what a year this has been. Leave it to you to have that bonus cherry on top with your surgery. Ugh. Hang in there. Thinking of you.

Yeah, it’s been quite a year so far… It is a huge relief to have that particular project done, except now I have to turn to all the *other* projects/tasks (not to mention home stuff) that I’ve been putting off while this was keeping me busy. No rest for the wicked! I’ll have some enforced rest for the next couple of weeks though, and that’s probably a good thing.

Wish you well with the op. It’ll be worth those two weeks out to get it sorted.

I’m way too late with this comment, Joy, but I really hope your eye surgery went well and that by now you can see clearly. I had no idea you had problems with your vision, but that’s probably because I haven’t been on WordPress for most of the last three years. I can also understand how relieved you must be to have finished such a huge work project. You certainly needed a rest after that! Anyway, look after yourself and don’t rush headlong into all the other projects you say you’ve neglected.

Thanks Millie! I am –thankfully– essentially recovered from this last surgery, although I still have to wait a while to get my new glasses. In the meantime I’ve found a pair to borrow from a friend that are *almost* right, so I can see the computer much better than before. Just two more surgeries left on the docket, and they should both be fairly minor, relatively speaking. Of course, now that I’ve had a little time to rest, I’m inundated with the *next* round of stressful projects at work, not to mention all those things that were put off and desperately need to be taken care of. Sigh…. Back to the grind!

Finally got the last of that long series of deadlines taken care of, whew! I have a TON of other stuff that’s been sitting on the back burner, and a few upcoming deadlines looming ahead. But this is the first weekend I will actually be able to take ANY time off to do housework and -gasp- even relax, in 11 weeks.

Yowza, Joy, that’s intense! I allowed myself a day to relax today, but this will probably be it until Christmas. The joy of teaching, right? ;-P
